Geraldine Mettler has been appointed as the new municipal manager of Stellenbosch Municipality. She started in the role at the beginning of January.
She replaces Christa Liebenberg who resigned in October 2015. Since then the post was temporarily filled by a municipal director, before Richard Bosman was seconded to Stellenbosch Municipality by the City of Cape Town on 1 February 2016.
Mettler was previously employed by the City of Cape Town as Director: Councillor Support and Sub Councils and has vast knowledge of local government. She has 16 years’ experience in local government, 12 of which at a senior level.
Mettler is an LLM graduate and an admitted Attorney of the High Court. Her special interests are in the fields of public administration, governance and public accountability. Over and above her interests and qualifications Mettler finalised the relevant municipal competencies with the University of Stellenbosch last year.
Mettler says she is looking forward to the next five years and to bringing the best possible service delivery to residents and maintaining sound and sustainable financial management within the municipality.
The Tatler wishes Ms Mettler all the best in her challenging new role.
