Haute Cabrière has partnered with Together Franschhoek to create a new Purchase with Purpose opportunity to support COVID-19 disaster relief in the Franschhoek Valley. The proceeds of a special release of the winery’s ever-popular Chardonnay Pinot Noir will bolster the coffers of Together Franschhoek in the fight against COVID-19.
“This kind of collaboration is how Together Franschhoek was born – the community working together to look after each other. Haute Cabrière’s generosity in this incredible donation of the profits of this wine will make a difference in countless lives,” says Susan Huxter, a long-time resident of Franschhoek and ambassador for Together Franschhoek.
Franschhoek, being a tourism destination, has profoundly felt the impact of the pandemic. Up to 80% of the employment opportunities in the valley are dependent on tourism and the wine industry. The sudden halt in their operations has therefore dealt a severe blow to the community.
The Special Release Chardonnay Pinot Noir isn’t the farm’s only contribution to the valley’s Covid-19 emergency. At the beginning of the lockdown in March, the farm also opened up its vegetable gardens to Together Franschhoek, thus supplying fresh nutritious vegetables to the community feeding scheme.
Nick van Woerkom, who joined Haute Cabrière on 1 June 2020 as the new Managing Director, says, “During these challenging times, it is only fitting to offer the Special Release Chardonnay Pinot Noir to support the Franschhoek community and our fellow South Africans who have supported this wine and our winery for generations. I am honoured to be a part of this community now, and to be able to offer our support.”
The Haute Cabrière Special Release Chardonnay Pinot Noir is available solely from the cellar door at a special reduced price of R60 per bottle to the consumer. With 9000 bottles committed by Haute Cabrière and profits donated, the financial contribution to Together Franschhoek stands to be R180 000.
